About Luquillo
Luquillo moves around its beach and its food. La Monserrate beach (better known as "Playa Luquillo") is one of the most accessible beaches in the east: wide sand, calm water, palms for shade, and the Mar Sin Barreras section — a ramp into the water that made Luquillo one of the first truly wheelchair-accessible beaches in the Caribbean.
Next to the beach, the Kioskos del 14 are an institution: 60-some kioskos in a row, each with its specialty — alcapurrias, pinchos, mofongo, pasteles, mavi, piña colada. Behind town rises El Yunque, the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest system. Luquillo is the launch and landing point for anyone coming to the east's nature.

MemoryFamily, umbrella, cooler full of fruit, and a pass through the kioskos. That's Luquillo on a Sunday and that's Puerto Rico at its best.
Cris
Local GemMar Sin Barreras should be a model for the whole island. I took my uncle in his wheelchair and he got in the water for the first time in years. Worth visiting just to see what's possible.

Explore LoízaFAQ about Luquillo
- Which kiosko is the best?
- There's no answer to that. People who go to the 14 graze — one thing at one kiosko, another at the next. If you have to pick, ask the person beside you.
- When's a good time to visit Luquillo?
- Year round. Summer is busier; winter has ideal weather but occasional swells that change the beach. Arrive early on weekends.
