About Rincón
Rincón sits where the west coast bends, which is exactly what makes it surf. Domes, Maria's, Indicators, and Sandy Beach catch winter swells the rest of the island doesn't, and from December through March the town fills with surfers from everywhere. The 1968 World Surfing Championship is what put Rincón on the global map, and the community has kept the culture honest since.
It isn't only surf, though. From January through March, humpback whales pass close enough offshore that you can spot them from the El Faro de Punta Higüero overlook. The west-facing coast gives Rincón some of the best sunsets on the island, full stop. Off-season, the town slows down to a small-town pace — beach mornings, fresh fish lunches, sunset, repeat.
