About Naguabo
Naguabo doesn't market itself as a destination. No resorts, no chain hotels, no famous beach. What it has is Hucares: a fishing village with a short malecón, a row of restaurants serving catch of the day, and the view of Cerro El Yunque in the background. Locals show up Sundays, fishermen go out in the morning, the pace doesn't push.
Outside Hucares, the town splits between the coastal zone and the mountain barrio of Río Blanco, in El Yunque's foothills. Río Blanco holds the Río Blanco pools — natural mountain pools that are local favorites, away from the formal El Yunque tour. Naguabo is the east coast most people miss.

MemoryI grew up Sunday-ing in Hucares with my grandparents. Trunkfish mofongo, my abuelo pointing at the fishermen coming in with the day's catch. That formula never fails.
Adriana
Local GemFor anyone doing El Yunque by the formal tour, try the Río Blanco pools once instead. Less traffic, fewer people, water just as cold.

Explore YabucoaFAQ about Naguabo
- What's the difference between Naguabo and Humacao?
- Humacao is a larger city with infrastructure (university, hospital, mall). Naguabo is a smaller coastal town with Hucares as its main draw. They're side by side and complement each other in one trip.
- Do I need a guide for the Río Blanco pools?
- For the basic pools, no, but the terrain is slippery and poorly marked. If you've never been, bring a local or hire a guide. The walk is short but takes care.
