About Yabucoa
Yabucoa sits where the Sierra de Cayey descends to the sea — a wide, fertile valley that was for centuries the capital of Puerto Rican sugar cane. The Roig sugar mill operated until the 1990s and ruins of it still stand. In September 2017 Hurricane María made landfall here — Yabucoa was the first town to feel Category 4 winds on land. The town rebuilt with pride. Today it mixes agriculture, coast (Playa Lucía, Playa Guayanés), and the natural end of the central mountain range.

Marisol
MemoryMaría made landfall through my town. We lost our roof, power for months, but we didn't lose the town. Yabucoa stood up. Every time I see Playa Lucía full of people enjoying themselves I remember how hard we fought.
Tato
Food SpotCrab rice in Guayanés, made with mangrove crab from right here. Nothing like it on the island. Ask at any seafood spot in the area.
